UniGuide Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how UniGuide ("UniGuide," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our websites, apps, and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who we are & what we do

UniGuide provides organizational tools and educational resources to help people plan and manage college applications (not limited to the UC system).

We are not a university or an application portal and we do not guarantee admissions outcomes.

2. Information we collect

We collect information from sources:

A. You provide it

• Account info (e.g., name, email)

• Profile details you choose to add (e.g., school, interests)

• Content you save in UniGuide (e.g., notes, task lists, essay drafts, if you choose to store them)

• Communications (e.g., messages you send us, newsletter sign-ups)

B. Collected automatically

• Device and usage data (e.g., IP address, device type, browser, pages viewed, interactions, crash reports)

• Cookies or similar technologies

C. From third parties

• Sign-in/identity providers (e.g., Google sign-in, if used)

• Service providers that help us operate, secure, and improve the Service (e.g., hosting, analytics, email delivery, authentication, payment processing if/when offered)

Examples of service providers we may use include Firebase (authentication/storage), Google Analytics (analytics), Mailchimp (email), and Stripe (payments, if offered). The specific providers we use may change over time.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

• Provide, personalize, and improve the Service

• Create and manage accounts; authenticate log-ins

• Operate features like checklists, deadlines, notes, and document storage you choose to use

• Communicate with you (service messages, updates, newsletters you opt into)

• Monitor safety, prevent fraud/abuse, fix bugs, and ensure security

• Analyze usage to improve performance and user experience

• Comply with law and enforce our Terms

4. When we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with:

• Service providers acting on our behalf (hosting, analytics, email, security, customer support, payments) under contracts that limit their use to our instructions

• Legal, safety, and rights – if required by law, to prevent harm, or to protect UniGuide’s rights

• Business transfers – if we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, or similar event, your information may transfer as part of that transaction

• With your direction/consent – for example, if you connect a third-party tool

Advertising: UniGuide is designed for students and families. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.

5. Your choices & rights

Access / correction / deletion. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.

Marketing. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

To make a request, email uniguideapp.team@gmail.com from the address tied to your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

6. Cookies & similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure performance, and improve features. You can manage cookies in your browser settings; blocking certain cookies may impact functionality.

7. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business needs (e.g., security, backups, legal compliance).

If you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal information, except where retention is required by law or necessary to protect our rights or users.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards (for example, encryption in transit, access controls, and secure hosting).

No system can be 100% secure; you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

9. International users

We are based in the United States, and your data may be processed in the U.S. and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than where you live.

10. California privacy notice (CPRA/CCPA)

California residents have the right to:

• Know the categories of personal information collected, sources, purposes, and third parties with whom we share it;

• Access specific pieces of personal information;

• Request deletion or correction;

• Opt out of sale or sharing;

• Limit use of sensitive personal information (we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics).

You (or your authorized agent) can submit requests at uniguideapp.team@gmail.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Categories we collect (as defined by California law): identifiers (e.g., email), internet/network activity (usage data), approximate location from IP, in-app content you choose to store, and limited inferences to operate features. We collect these from you, your devices, and our service providers. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law, and we do not knowingly sell/share personal information of users under 16.

11. Do Not Track

Some browsers send “DNT” signals. We currently do not respond to DNT signals.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will change the “Effective Date” above and, when required, provide additional notice. Continued use of the Service means you accept the updated Policy.
